SUMMARY:OHS July Jubilation Open House
DESCRIPTION:Join Us for July Jubilation! \nOn Sunday\, July 5\, from 1PM to 4PM\, the Odenton Heritage Society invites you to July Jubilation as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and explore Odenton’s ties to the people\, places\, and events of the 18th century. \nVisit the OHS Historical Center to enjoy festive red\, white\, and blue ice cream while exploring historical objects and exhibits that highlight Odenton’s 18th- and 19th-century heritage. Featured displays include iron products made at a pre–Revolutionary War ironworks\, an inscribed boundary stone marking an estate once owned by a prominent Annapolis family\, and information about a ca. 1792 Quaker meeting house that later became the nucleus of a nearby African American community. \nAlso on display will be a collection of the Watts family’s picker’s checks—coin-like tokens used to pay farm laborers for harvesting truck crops\, including Anne Arundel County’s renowned strawberries. \nA highlight of the day will be a guided bus tour of historic sites in Odenton\, including a special stop at the former USNA Dairy Farm\, land once owned by the prominent Hammond family of Annapolis. Through images of relics\, grave markers\, and a long-lost mansion\, visitors will learn about the family’s contributions to the region\, including the Revolutionary War service of Matthias Hammond\, owner of the Hammond-Harwood House\, and his burial site in Gambrills. \nTour participants will meet inside the Historical Center at 1:30PM for a brief introduction before boarding the bus. The tour will depart at 2PM and last approximately one hour. Please note the bus is not air-conditioned\, so plan accordingly for warm July weather. \nAdvance registration is requested for the bus tour. To reserve your seats\, please email odentonheritage@gmail.com with the number of attendees in your party. \nThe OHS Historical Center\, located at 1367 Odenton Road\, is home to the OHS community history museum. Visitors are welcome during our Open Houses\, held on the first Sunday of each month from 1PM to 4PM.  Admission and guided tours are always free. \nWe look forward to celebrating with you! \n
